I think I'm going to start blogging again! I'm going to start with my trip to Germany so here it is--
I LOVED my trip to Germany so much! We did a bunch of fun stuff. Be sure to check out my photo slideshow at the bottom.
Day 1- We did tons of traveling and once we got there we were pretty pooped, but I had to go on a bread hunt and I got a giant pretzel which was pretty good. Then after dropping our stuff off at my friend Nora's house we went to Miniature Wonderland, which is exactly what it sounds like. Lots and lots of tiny scenes. It was pretty cool to see how much work people put into crafts.
Day 2- We left on the train for Berlin and dropped off our luggage at the hotel. We saw lots of cool historic sites on this one road, including this pretty church with a winding staircase all around it. I found that Berlin has these bears (equivalent to the Rochester horses) which are super cute and called Buddy Bears. Then we went to this really pretty bridge called the Brandenburg Gate. After we went to an all glass dome where we could see a beautiful view of Berlin. It had a mirror column in the middle of it which kept it cool during the day by reflecting the sun beams but also provided some sick pictures. Then we walked through the Central Park of Berlin to get to the most "magical" beer garden ever! It was so pretty and definitely Tumblr or VSCO worthy. After a full day we headed back to the hotel for some much needed rest.
Day 3- For our second day in "The city of freedom" (Which I find kind of ironic after the Berlin Wall) we headed to the Berlin wall memorial. It was actually a cool museum and I even read a bunch of the panels! Across the street was a portion of the wall so it was cool to see what you're reading about. Then we went to this funky part of the town where there were funky shopping mazes and did some good shopping. Then we went to dinner and that's where my hunt for beer cheese ended as I realized that was more of an American thing.
Day 4- We headed out to the East side gallery. The east side gallery is a piece of the Berlin Wall that is still up and artists have come in and done murals on them. From there we walked to the Oberbaum Bridge. From there you could see molecule man, which is a large metal sculpture of two men fighting and they are covered in holes. Then we went to a neighborhood full of funky art stores. After that we took the train back to Hamburg with only an hour delay on the train.
Day 5- We got up and met the Bowers (Ryleigh and Lindsay). We went to the Hamburg Philharmonic and walked around the observation deck where you could see all of Hamburg. Then we went to the Photography museum where we saw lots of cool photos from around the world. After my dad realized there was no open container laws, we went back to Nora's apartment to grad a few beers. Me and Ryleigh found there was roof access, we had to do an Instagram photo shoot. Then we walked to the Nikolai Church, which was another great view point of Hamburg. It had pretty architecture and I think was one of my favorite parts. Then we went to the Rapperban, which to say the least was an experience. We also saw the place where the club the Beetles had their first show was a long time ago. Then all of us went out to dinner at a really good tapas place.
Day 6- For our last day, we headed to a mall near the city square to burn some Euros. I wasn't complaining. We also went to the chocolate museum and we got to make our own chocolate bars.
Day 7- After a wonderful trip, we sadly had to head back to DC and school.
Overall, I really enjoyed the trip and would do it again in a heart beat.
